Magnolia House

Status: Complete

Location: Mullumbimby, NSW

Client: Private

Architect: Scott Wilson, Occupy Studios

Magnolia House, dating back to 1860, is the oldest dwelling in Mullumbimby. Faced with heritage restrictions in the development application, Kick worked with the council to lift these constraints, allowing us to enhance the design and performance of the existing structure.

Our renovations included open-plan living areas, a kitchen extension, custom joinery, refurbished fireplaces, and new external deck and roof structures for the main house.

Additionally, we built a 2-bedroom Barn House using recycled materials like 120-year-old bridge timbers, hardwood VJ lining, and charred spotted gum cladding. External structures built from recycled re-sawn hardwood sourced from a demolished heritage building in Brisbane CBD.

The renewed Magnolia House stands as a testament to our dedication to preserving history while infusing modern functionality and design.
